Mega Man 2

I like video games. I mostly like buying them, because in some place deep in my heart, I want to play them, but don’t end up making enough time for them (I’ll work on this). It all begins somewhere around 1990 at my cousins house. I was hooked on Mega Man 2.

Mega Man is a robot built for peace by the good natured Dr. Light. He was meant to just do housework I think, and be generally friendly, but then Dr. Lights enemy Dr. Wiley stole some other robots Dr. Light had made, and turned them into true bad guys with weapons in an attempt to take over the world. Dr. Light reprogrammed Mega Man to kick all their asses, and now it’s been about 30 years of sequels and the Blue Bomber is still kicking ass.

Mega Man has faced lots of unique bad guys over the years, but Mega Man 2 is the one that I still go back to. To me Mega Man is more important to the history of Nintendo than Mario, he’s my guy, the true icon of Nintendo like Mario for others, or Sonic for a few I suppose. I think the reason Mega Man never caught on in a major way, is because it’s hard. It poses unique challenges and lots of trial and error type levels, often with big pits that you can fall into a die pretty easily.

It’s a thinking game like none I had encountered otherwise. You have to fight the bad guys in the right order so you have the right weapons to beat other bad guys with. I like the way you can choose the levels in the order you want to also, like one of those old comic books where you choose your adventure. It’s fun.

Here’s my preference Flash Man, Bubble Man, Metal Man, Wood Man, Air Man, Crash Man, Quick Man, Heat Man. I know it’s not the right way, but it’s just the way I prefer it, and I’m sorry, but there is nothing you can do about it.

I like the sense of accomplishment when I succeed at Mega Man in particular. Don’t be confused, I’m not great at it or anything. There are loads of Mega Man games I haven’t even gotten to, but I still love those early ones. Not as much as my brother John though. He loooooooves Mega Man. Here is a link to his Twitch page if you are into Twitch you can check him out.

It’s also pretty fun to buy lots of stupid Mega Man things, like patches and Pop Dolls. Ooh a Mega Man tshirt too. OK FINE… I love Mega Man. This is my announcement to the world. It’s me and the Blue Bomber for life…. and Jen.
