“Bryant for the win!”

Dear Basketball is Kobe Bryant’s end of career love letter to the sport that changed his life. Executed in graphite, Bryant reminisces about being a six-year old boy, rolling up his father’s tube socks and making free throws into his trash can (depicted as a basketball hoop mounted on his bedroom door. Moments from his career are rendered into animated moments. Bryant remains the clear focus of the short film by keeping only his uniform in color. The uniform shifts with passage of time as he plays home and away for the Lakers and then for Team USA. John Williams’ score is poignant and energetic at the same time, with a sweeping melody that fits the action on the court.

Bryant may be wondering what’s next, but his clear, concise and yet passionate writing indicate something in the arts.
